Winston is worthless, written from First Mates perspective

Docked at primary island Erden for some training. We are told a mysterious object is floating into space from the ice side. I say that we are not ready for such a mission but Winston overrules and off we go. Winston wanders off after giving the order leaving us confused.

We fly away, as flying Jen randomly fires all 6 cannons out into space. I don’t know what she was thinking but lets hope we never find out any repercussions. As we approach the object we notice it is a giant rock, with a small ship passing by. We steer course for the small ship. Flanking the ship our bubbles merge. The opposing ship is full of humans that have a discussion with Roland. The ship is from Vargus, they claim to be traders running through space. With suspicion we board the other ship via teleportation. The captain gives us a tour. The ship has a magical telescope on the front of it, the captain has a magical sword, and the crew is injured.

Upon going into the hold of the ship we Jen notices a large magical object in the back of the ship. Roland questions the captain what the magical item is. The captain tries to avoid the discussion but Roland insists and we have the crew clear a path to the back of the ship. The captain of the ship and several crew members draw weapons but Roland maintains a diplomatic state, despite having the entire party buffed by and ready to fight these smugglers.

After the boxes were cleared the door cracked opened to a woman. She didn’t seem to be of much interest and kept the talk to mostly small talk. The door opens and Roland walks in, inside the room there is a desk with a book on it. There is a duffel bag with stuff in it. There is an incense stand making the room smell fruity. They chit chat and then she asks Roland to just leave… compellingly…he doesn’t care and tells her to give him the reason why they were attacked…

The Ship:

Ronald be warned.

For some reason one of the sailors decided to attack Cho. Zekkyra wandered down the stairs to help Cho with a couple sailors while I valiantly fought off five heavily armed trained assassins. After awhile it was determined that a wizard was attacking Roland. I encourage Cho and Zekkyra to assist Roland with the wizard. After avoiding blow after blow I got bored of the assassins and made my way down to the room with Roland. Upon arriving Roland was guarding the door and took on the duty of thwarting the lowly sailors. I wandered into the room and attacked the lady who was clearly in the corner of the room. The lady then grabbed her duffle bag and incense candle upon which she whispered something and then disappeared.

Roland questioned the captain about why he attacked us. The captain said he was afraid for his family if he didn’t protect the lady as she is very powerful. He said there was an evil wizard on the rock that they stole an artifact from, that is what caused the wizard to attack and injure his crew. The evil wizard didn’t like that they stole the artifact. Meanwhile, I opened a chest left behind by the lady, inside the chest were 2 robes, a scourge, and a smaller box that glows. I swooped up all of the items and joined the party. Roland was still talking with the captain and found out the lady was going to Gasra.

We got back on the ship and had a talk with Winston about smuggler ships. He says he doesn’t care what we do with such people so a precedent is set that we take the goods we want and then let smuggler ships go. With that being said Cho flies the clock bot onto the other ship, rips the telescope off and brings it back.

Looking through the telescope Zekkyra notices the island has an alien building on it. We pulled up beside the island and noticed a broken crystal. Using the crystal and our ship we extended our bubble over the island. The island has a bunch of columns which turn out to be crumbled feet and a large building. There was also another another crystal some place on the island. The crystal was enormous much like the one found on Erden. Roland does his magic and links up with the island’s main crystal extending the bubble over the entire island. Roland volunteers to be teleported to the door of the building where he doesn’t follow instructions and tries to talk. After no one responds he opens the doors and casts light on a pebble throwing it in. These actions of are being noted in his file. The hallway is full of dead sailors and relief sculptures with a large room that has 4 doors in it.

Not sure if we want to go in and noticing a tingling feeling we decide to explore the island aboard our ship some more. Rolling around to the other side of the island we see a large blue object, that turns out to be a bunch of stones. Cho volunteers to climb the tree and grab one. They make us feel odd. We decide to pick them up and begin filling our hold. As we are doing this we get a call from Erden about three Aszian ships coming our way. History tells us these guys are not to be messed with, so I command the party to split up with one team to explore the building while the other continues the crystal gathering process. To hedge our bets against the Aszians I had Cho fly out our teleporting drone towards home.

Why was the Lich there?

We teleport to the main building. Entering the room we see a bunch of corpses and a sun dance ritual. Roland was smart enough to look up and noticed some beetles hiding on the ceiling. We went back to the door and Jen shot them with her bow nailing one dead center dropping it to the floor. Then Roland turned into bear form, deciding to ignore my tactical plan and entered the room to be surrounded by the bugs. Cho tried to save him but there wasn’t much he could do versus five of them, luckily I raised my holy symbol and scared them away. Roland chased after them gnawing at the bugs killing one. The rest escaped up the in the ceiling through some holes.
The door on the right went down. The door straight ahead opened to a balcony with a magical setting of a necromancy spell. With the spell ending all of the corpses we had passed started to stir. Panicking we ran down the stairs into the room where the necromancer was. Upon entering the room we see nothing but some stain glass windows. After breaking a window we realize Jen turned off her magic find and tell her to turn it back on. She turned it back on and sees the necromancer and 8 zombies in the room with the zombies walking towards us. The necromancer makes our eyes burn causing us to barely see anything. Roland chooses not to believe the zombies exist and just wanders right into them. Falling unconscious because well, they were real, he is down for the count. Literally down for the count because no one binds his wounds as he is bleeding out. I raise my holy symbol and command the zombies to flee, making them all flee. Turning my attention to the necromancer I start the daunting task of walking towards him. Finally getting there.. I flee in terror! Luckily this prompted the rest of the party to attack him and with a mighty blow from Winston the caster crumbles in a pile of bones.
Looting the room we find several items including a magic sword and a chest with a shriveled heart, some hair, and a ring. We find no exit down here so we wander back upstairs to the statues in the hallway. Looking at one of the statues we see that sun thing again and a sphere. Why not plug the sphere into the sun? Oh because the picture next to the sun shows things that look like these statues executing humans with blue glowing eyes. This prompted us to flee the building, teleport to our ship, and fly towards the crystal to investigate the building there.

Slited

We docked to the structure around the crystal. We walked into the crystal from an open staircase at the top. The staircase opens into a room with four tables that have some charts on them. The inner wall has a window that shows the crystal. The charts are profiles of ships with some foreign language. The next room has weapon racks with dusty weapons on them and crates full of supplies. There is a table with some magical tools on it. The items are completely alien to us. Winston picks them up and Chasy picks up a magical long sword. These items don’t bother Winston or Chasy but to the rest of us these items make our hands burn when we touch them.
Going down the stairs we find a bigger room with a magical stiletto in a desk. We notice an undead like creature standing in the room, we avoid it and loot a magic ring. Ignoring the undead creature we attempt to open the doors and notice this is just a path to the island. Roland notices that the undead creature is actually just a statue. Winston cuts the statue in half revealing a dark shadow. Zekkyra stabs at the creature making it squeal. After a few attacks the shadow dissipates and we leave.
Roland has the bright idea of flying away from home to throw the three ships off our true trail, so that is what we do. While we are watching them they don’t follow us. We find out the magical tools and sword are all used for ritual killings of creatures like us. After we are almost back to base the three enemy ships are seen destroying the island.
Upon reaching home I go about writing an official report on the island, trying to gain more information about the alien writings/blue crystal, and making our ship more secure. After a short headache I find myself not where I had left myself.. confused..apparently Roland overruled my order and Winston backed him up. Maybe Winston should promote a new first mate…

5- Roland's log!
Specificity

We took to exploring the island of Ghazra, meandering our way to the large temple that loomed over it. Mars, we were told, resided there and was in the middle of some kind of ritual.

Most of what little we saw of the place seemed somewhat underdeveloped, though judging by their style of dress it is possible that it’s residents prefer a more austere lifestyle. Passing by one of the small villages on the way to the temple we heard cries of pain, and went in to investigate.

The villagers were in the middle of their own ritual, which apparently involved flaying some poor wretch alive. My first impulse is, of course, to interfere, but first I wanted to ascertain exactly why this was happening. Perhaps the man is being punished for some heinous crime?

Unfortunately, victim was chosen against his will because they claimed he talked funny, and the only person on the island with the power to stop said ritual resided in the temple. Simply attacking the villagers to free the flayed man would have ultimately stopped nothing. They could have picked him back up after we left, or chosen a new victim entirely. Also, we have no idea what’s happening over the rest of the island.

So, naturally, the only recourse left was to offer to stand in for substitute flaying victim duty, while the rest of the crew hopefully persuades Mars to call off the ritual. If they were unable to do so, I of course expect to be rescued. What that means was open to interpretation. The way the crew interpreted it was that they do indeed slaughter the village wholesale to free me. Luckily, their wounds were not so grievous that they could not be treated.

Upon arriving at the temple, we were able to convince the doorman to give us a tour of the facility. This is apparently somewhat common practice. How accommodating! The structure looped around the pit of an active volcano. It was complete with a barracks and temple section. We learned that Mars was in the process of completing a ceremony that would herald in a new age. And the island was helping. With our knowledge of what was taking place on the island coupled with the ominous nature of the meteor citadel we found Mars coming from, we decided that this was very bad for business.

Our tour guide was easy enough to render unconscious. Cho slid him under a bed with minimal molestation, although it was surprisingly difficult to talk him out of drowning the poor man to death with their communion wine. We skulked about the temple donut, and eventually found a heavy metal door that leads deeper into the volcano. Winston opened the door with some ‘aggressive lockpicking’, and we found Mars, floating on a disk over the volcano, with a bunch of her closest friends crucified and bleeding to death around her. Then, we rolled initiative.

Marz goes down

Upon opening the door we see a circular room that has a volcano center with lava bubbling. There are several guards guarding a platform with Marz casting a spell.
We flood into the room attacking some guards while fighting valiantly towards the center

Upon realizing that a summoning ritual is being cast, Cho chucks some rock acid at the rock which has chains bolted into it. He was hoping that if the chain broke the platform would fall, victory! Harolde, not realizing any of this is going on, foolishly attempts to walk to the center to attack Marz. Zekkyra oddly shoots the women hostages, guess she was trying to put them out of their misery. Rad shot his mind gun at the creature being summoned. Winston, being a team player, cuts some chains with his light saber.

The ritual completes and a nude bloody creature arises, however, the last chain is cut sending Harolde and the creature crashing against the wall. Luckily Harolde was able to hold on, not so for the creature. Marz, during all the confusion, some how grabbed the relic and disappeared.

Roland looking around sees Marz running outside a window and takes off after her. Catching up to her ,he bites her HARD, but then he flees in terror. He gains his senses and again chases after her while the rest of the party follows the blood trail.

Roland thinks she went in a guarded building but since he has no thumbs he wisely waits for the party to come to his rescue to open the door. Harolde eventually arrives, bursting through the doors, and then boldly charging in. With the rest of the group following a fight ensues.

Roland charges up stairs hoping to catch Marz while the rest of the party takes the “she has no place to guy lets kill our way though this” strategy. With a little bit of luck the fight is won, Roland isn’t sacrificed by Marz and we have gained a prisoner.

The escape..why?

After boarding our ship that had been in combat but was finally winning we took stock of the situation. Shields were down but otherwise all systems were good. With the new prisoner in the cell, Roland makes the decision to head home.

While heading home many streaking fireballs go whizzing through space. Eventually one of them stops and opens fire upon us! We return volleys, mostly shooting cannons and trying to burn them up.

After a few rounds they had closed some distance on us and teleported zombies on our deck! Cho valiantly fought the zombies while Harolde tried to use the focus crystal to turn the other ships people.

Eventually we were able to break through their shields and burn the ship down.. just as another ship turned on us!

Roland, the coward, blinked us away and home we headed.

A sad day

After blinking we appear in the mess hall eating some food…confused we determine just to continue home to help out. We throw Marz’s smoking relic and the soul manipulation weapons into the furnace. Getting close to home we notice it is under siege.

Roland brings up comms and discusses things with the Zephyra. Apparently the ship details we brought back were from a horrible past time and so luckily the island was on the defenses. Unfortunately the forces attacking were so great most of the populous that wasn’t already on a mobile ship probably died. The commander of the Zephyra recommends that we desert the area and move on to some abandoned cluster.

We decide to try to swing over to this other ship by going closer to the great storm. Sending the drone around to the other side we sit around healing up. Just randomly Zekkyra decide to fire some shots at the now enemy covered island. Shortly after the shots left our bubble they hit some shields!

Turns out we had hit an ally ship that could stealth. Rad then came up with the idea of putting out some homing message for other fleet ships with directions on where to go. Roland talking with them suggesting they stealth fully sneak around finding more. We then told them about our technology, our plans to leave the island for dead, and then blinked away.

Harolde kept a journal of what had happened today…as he always does, this time righting notes though as we were to blink. Unfortunately, I forgot my notebook while moving off to a dinner table and showed back up at the mess hall…

We meet up with the other ships at the rondevu point, hailing one. The guy talks about his entire team being sick and then gets attacked by a zombie. Figuring those people are dead, we teleport on the Zephyra and find some alive.. some dead..

Harolde kicks in the door to the bridge, some bugs come spewing out. Fighting his way in, he notices the room is a choking stench with some beetles munching on some crew members. We fight a couple large beetle bugs and then heal up the semi dead. Talking on the comms, Roland tries to sooth the ships team:

“To the crew of the Zephyra:
We have retaken the command deck and rescued your remaining command officers. We, the crew of the Equinox, have come to help you retake your ship from the horrors of the great freeze. If you or someone close to you has been sickened by the undead plague, hold on. We have cured every member of our own crew, and we will cure you as well. If you have the means and the will to fight, then fight. If you cannot, then get to safety. We are coming.”

Prison, what prison?

We cleaned up the crew in the bridge and headed out down towards the ship center. As we were walking we came across a few zombies and slaughtered them. Then we noticed a large army of them creeping up on us so Roland entangled them and then just stood there. Harolde walked away still heading towards the ship center when the entire team gets attacked from invisible zombies. Harolde manages to get bit several times while the rest of the group kills off the zombies.

Harolde wants to abandon ship but the rest of the party decides to carry on. Getting to the library (why did we go to the library?) we open the doors and see a man with a rapier sitting behind a desk. Cho almost charges the man but notices some runes on the ground. Dialog begins.
Meanwhile Harolde disappears after reading the word on the floor.

When Harolde reappears fighting is happening. By the time Harolde makes it to the combat only Rad, Winston, and Zekkyra are left in the room along with a swarm of bugs. The bugs engulf Rad and then he disappears. With the bugs turning towards Harolde he shouts the word Banish and all the bugs disappear. Not feeling extremely well Harolde evacuates the building with Winston, Zekkyra, and the Zephyrs saved members teleporting back to the Equinox. Upon arrival an enemy ship was approaching with Norwood hailing over the comms about the hostilities it has done.

We opened fire…

Where is the other party?

…with shots firing towards the enemy warship the equinox jolted forward to get into close combat and assist the shadow ship. The warship had some huge pontoons and a main structure that looked like it was swept back by the wind. The back of the ship had a huge crystal structure that looked like a scorpion stinger. The pontoons fired what looked like a blue ribbon.

The shadow ship, under enemy fire, did what any self respecting mage ship would do, a mirror image! The warship destroyed two of the shadows while still being fired upon by everyone else. Now at close range the Equinox kept firing until the shields were down. With the shields down the enemy ship began to dissipate the water around it. Winston had seen this before and noted that the enemy ship was attempting to do some evasion maneuver. Harolde commanded that we extend our bubble over the ship to keep it tied down in the water.

With no where to go, the enemy ship resumed combat. Obliterating one of our ships in a single strike of the blue ribbon! Knowing that this was a do or die moment we kept fighting. Unfortunately, the next thing you know, the enemy ship had destroyed all but the shadow ship, the Zephyr, and us.

Cancelling the extension of the bubble and firing full force we attempt to disable the harmonics bay by firing discord rounds. It appeared to have worked! The enemy ship seemed disabled as it leaned to the side some. Since they could no longer fire at us, they attempted to board us via some harpoons. With a giant arc of fire, Dietlinde melted all of the harpoon chains.

The warship started to drift, relentlessly we kept firing. After awhile it was noticed that the ship was drifting right into the Zephyr. The two ships careened together. Harolde, not wanting the Zephyr to be demolished, had Dietlinde surrounded the warship in a bubble again. Pushing the ship away from the Zephyr, destruction continued…
